I just didn’t want you to think I had unsubsribed from your email. the RSS is the best way to go. Even though you are gone from SeaCoast, you are a very important part of my faith and teaching. I look foward to reading your lessons. Love to you and your family.

So much of Scripture echoes this theme here in 1 John. Paul in Philippians 2:12-13, the author of Hebrews in 6:4-8, and Jesus himself in John 15. The question to me is, what causes “that which I have heard from the beginning” to loose its influence in me? Could it be that something has been added instead of being lost? Jesus warns us to be careful of the yeast of the Pharisee and the Herodian. Yeast here is to be guarded against. I often wonder what Jesus meant by that. Could part of his warning be against the attitudes and belief systems detrimental to kingdom work?
What can I do to remain open and continue to bend my life around the truth that was planted in me? Much of this happens when we have the spirit of love in us that John highlights as the evidence of one who is a child of God.
Excellent comments on the perils of teaching “unconditional” eternal security!
No disclaimers are necessary for mentioning Dr. Stanley by name. (I did the same thing on my simple webpage: http://www.webspawner.com/users/eternalosas/index.html “Once Saved, Always Saved? Sign Me Up!)
People in his own denomination need to challenge Mr. Stanley regarding this terrible deception. Faith is the “umbilical cord” by which we are attached to Christ. To say that this lifeline can be severed and salvation will still be maintained is a scary, scary doctrine.
(By the way, I was raised in a Southern Baptist Church, my father is an ordained SBC minister, and I still attend an SBC church.)
