Hercules was recently awarded the honourable distinction of Worlds Biggest Dog by Guinness World Records. Hercules is an English Mastiff and has a 38 inch neck and weighs 282 pounds.

UPDATE: Dave Kind alerts me to the fact that this story is an urban legend.

The dog in the picture isn’t an English mastiff at all. they are a light pale tan colour or brindle.. that dog is neither but does have the colouring of a Neopolitan Mastiff… but the picture is still got to be digitally enhanced.

I’M PRETTY SURE GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS DOESN’T GIVE THEIR RECOGNITION TO JUST LOOKING AT PICTURES. I’M PRETTY SURE THEY WENT TO LOOK AT IT FIRST. IF THAT’S THE CASE, I COULD USE MY COMPUTER AND MAKE MY DOG BIGGER AND WIN THE AWARD OVER THEM. IT HAS TO BE REAL.

THis is so not real. look at the picture more carefully. It has parts of the guy and of the dog. the mans right thigh is missing and part of the dogs left leg is missing as well! So it truly is a fake.

how could the dog be made bigger on the computer. that’d have to be one thin leash if you look at it compared to the guys hand

this is a real picture. if you pay close attention to the guys right thigh its behind him because he’s walking and the left foot of the dog is missing only because its folded up also due to walking. so yall need to stop hating on these people and their massive dog.

Regardless of whether the photo has been doctored or not, I totally don’t believe that this is an English Mastiff. It has the coloring and conformation of a Neapolitan Mastiff. But that’s my take on it.
