I have to say, that I could not agree with you in 100% regarding The New Jerusalem (Revelation 21.9–27), but it’s just my opinion, which could be wrong 🙂
Daniel:
What do you think the New Jerusalem is?

The gospel and prophecy elements of the Revelation Scripture is authentic.
God the supreme creator will restore all things beyond the pristine creation of the Garden of Eden.
Beyond the devasting deluge, historic wars, demonic and human events, God has is time table of ultimacies.
He being God, is able. He will restore a new earth with a new Jerusalem as the capital of the new world and it will cover the existing old Jerusalem greater community.
With no more evil, armagedon past, battle of God and Magog ending the controversy that started in Heaven from eternity. God triumps over evil, Satan, demons, lost children of God all are destroyed in the lake of fire which unlike Sodom and Gomarrahs fire, is complete cleansing of the earth.
I beliver scripture from Genesis through to Revelation and celebrate Revelation 22: 1-5 with as much joy as the Lord has pardoned my sins and bestowed transforming cleansing grace in my life.
Let me quote something I heard first and later read as a youth.
‘The great controversy is ended. Sin and sinners are no more. The entire universe is clean. One pulse of harmony and gladness beats through the vast creation. From Him who created all, flow life and light and gladness, throughout the realms of illimitable space. From the minutest atom to the greatest world, all things, animate and inanimate, in their unshadowed beauty and perfect joy, declare that God is love.’ The Great Controversy -final paragraph written by American Ellen G. White.
The entire human civilization has been on a journey from Paradise lost to Paradise regained. Believe it or not, the end only means the end of evil in any and every form. God’s finality to all wrong. The end also means in scripture the beginning and restoration of the best of paradise plus the gift of immortality to all who have belived God and are saved by His grace.
Ready or not, believe it or not, agnostic and atheistic or not, God’s ultimate desire is expressed in Revelation 20-22.
I want my last day on earth to be like Enoch, Elijah, Moses or the 24 Elders of Revelation who are redeemed from this earth.
Finally Revelatioin 7 contains the promise of God to save all His Holy Spirit sealed servants. Since we as humans have lived everywhere, why not accept the best God offers and is to come. It is not based on supreme courts or papal edicts but on God’s sovereingty and omnipotence.

The New Jersualem will become the capital of the New Earth. The family of the redeemed saints of all the earth, now immortalized will visit this New Jerusalem for weekly Sabbath worship.
It seems that only the 144000 or Revelation with the redeemed such as Enoch, Elijah, Moses, and the 24 Elders from the resurrection of Jesus and Revelation will be among those who constantly live in the New Jerusalem.
All the saved of the Great countless number of Revelation 7:9 redeemed from this world will live outside New Jerusalem but will have access, especially on Sabbaths.
